Hi! I’m Spencer

I’ve been a Wealthsimple client and fan for almost as long as I’ve been a professional Motion Designer (10 years). In fact, I first heard about Wealthsimple when I animated a scene in an early campaign:

Video produced by Giant Ant for Wealthsimple. My contribution subcontracted through Linetest Collective. My role: animation of the on-screen elements; piggy-bank excluded

Since then, I’ve:

freelanced

Meanwhile, Wealthsimple grew with my evolving financial life as I:

saved

invested

combined finances after getting married

started a travel fund

reached Premium status

went all-in and moved my banking to Wealthsimple

This is a selection of work that shows how I could help turn Wealthsimple product experiences into clear, polished, scalable marketing content.

Building motion systems for a fast-moving product team

I spent last year consulting full-time for Dapper Labs, where the fast-paced, fully-remote tech environment required clear prioritization and practical systems to maintain high-quality work under compressed timelines. Organization and efficiency were the names of the game as I overhauled existing workflows and enabled product features that weren’t possible before.

I created a template that enabled non-creative team members to create and publish an NBA Top Shot Moment to the marketplace within an hour of a live NBA play, capturing peak excitement rather than waiting days or weeks.

I took a regular Disney Pinnacle marketing video production task that took my team lead 3 hours a week, streamlined the process to take less than 30 minutes, and handed it off to a junior motion designer with clear documentation, improving quality while cutting the cost per video by over 99% (really.)

Shipping feature stories at startup speed

For NFL All Day’s new game-mode launch ahead of a new season, the team brought a rough script, incomplete inputs, and an ASAP deadline. I aligned relevant stakeholders, clarified responsibilities, built the motion approach, and delivered four launch videos (one for each game mode plus an overall summary, each in four channel-specific formats).

I used what was available to me, including Figma boards, Illustrator files, screenshots, and used AI tools selectively to close production gaps: Google Vertex Chirp for voiceover, Suno for background music, and Google Veo for illustrative user footage. In a short amount of time with little oversight, I was able to deliver a cohesive, on-brand launch package quickly while maintaining control over creative quality and clarity.

Applying the same thinking to Wealthsimple

That was NFL All Day’s style, not Wealthsimple’s. NFLAD’s brand voice was kinetic, action-packed, and built for sports fandom. Wealthsimple is approachable, understandable and, of course: simple.

The following are independent exploratory concepts showing how publicly available Wealthsimple product information and interface moments could become concise, motion-led product marketing assets. (these examples have been created for this application for illustration purposes only, not affiliated with or commissioned by Wealthsimple)

IPO Flow

Goal: Set expectations for a new process that users likely haven't encountered before.

Risk/Return Graphic

Goal: Illustrate the difference between different account types to new users, highlighting that any choice is likely more desirable than their existing chequing account.

What I would do next:

  1. Identify highest-impact easy wins where graphics are missing, as well as existing graphics that would benefit from motion
  2. Unify the product look across channels
  3. Create guidelines for how the product should look and be represented, to share with team members and external vendors
  4. A/B test visuals and messaging across communications, app store page, and influencer marketing
  5. Create a reactive rig that could accomodate future UI experiences to speed up my workflow in the future, and potentially share with product and UX teams to help with prototyping

More motion work

Let’s bring the next chapter of Wealthsimple to life

Thank you for taking the time to engage with my work! I hope I’ve illustrated both why Wealthsimple is important to me and why I’m the right person for the job. I believe in the mission and want to use my expertise to help. Let’s talk soon.
